I designed the Sama Drop Earrings so the same turning figure could catch light with every small movement of the head, not just when it is still. Sama takes its name from the Sufi whirling ceremony, the turn that traces back to Rumi's lineage; a pair lets you see that turn from two angles at once.

The Story

I designed the Sama Drop Earrings so the same turning figure could catch light with every small movement of the head, not just when it is still. Sama takes its name from the Sufi whirling ceremony, the turn that traces back to Rumi's lineage; a pair lets you see that turn from two angles at once. Each earring repeats the pendant's construction at a smaller scale: a featureless oval head narrowing into an unbroken sweep of body, then flaring into the skirt, worked as one continuous ribbon of solid 18ct yellow gold. Around twenty pave-set diamonds at 1.0mm each, roughly 0.20ct the pair, trace the polished edge of the raw, hand-brushed band, so the sparkle sits only where the fabric of the skirt would move. Mirror polish carries the rest of the form; the back is open and hollowed, keeping each earring, roughly 25 x 13mm, light enough to wear from morning to evening without pulling at the ear. They sit close to the lobe on a simple post fitting, sized for everyday wear rather than occasion drama, and pair easily with the pendant or worn alone. Materials: 18ct yellow gold, UK hallmarked (Birmingham Assay Office)
