The gazelle, ahu, is the beloved's eye in every Persian ghazal and the royal quarry on every Sassanian plate. Here she leaps inside a pearl roundel of diamonds, and her hind leg steps over the band, the hoof breaking the circle the way the old silversmiths let a creature step out of its frame.

The Story
The gazelle, ahu, is the beloved's eye in every Persian ghazal and the royal quarry on every Sassanian plate. Here she leaps inside a pearl roundel of diamonds, and her hind leg steps over the band, the hoof breaking the circle the way the old silversmiths let a creature step out of its frame. No stones on the gazelle: satin gold, soft relief, the ribbon at her neck. Twenty-three millimetres across, hung from a plain polished bail: the pendant to wear with the Ahu Roundel Drops.
