Afsaneh

Every piece here carries its own legend.

Afsaneh is the Persian word for legend, and this is Silux's sculptural statement family, pieces built around a story rather than a single motif. The Simurgh Cocktail Ring opens it with Persian mythology's greatest bird: ancient, wise, and possessed of all the world's knowledge. In the Shahnameh she nurses Zal, the white-haired hero, and grants him one of her feathers to call on her in his darkest hour, held here at £2,400 as the most accessible entry into the family. Parvin turns to architecture rather than myth for its legend: each facet of its gold frame is hand-finished to create the stepped, light-catching depth that defines muqarnas vaulting in Persian architecture, with accent diamonds set flush between the geometric tiers so they catch light as the hand moves, at £3,950, geometry worn as its own kind of legend.

The newest legend in the family is Sama, named for the Sufi whirling ceremony and built from a single idea: the dancer as one continuous ribbon of gold. The Sama Pendant renders that ribbon in solid 18ct yellow gold, a featureless oval head narrowing into an unbroken sweep of body before flaring into the skirt, the flare carrying a fine row of pave-set diamonds, around forty-six stones in total, priced at £3,200. The Sama Drop Earrings repeat the same construction at a smaller scale, the same featureless head, the same unbroken sweep into a flaring skirt, worked as one continuous ribbon of solid 18ct gold and set with around twenty pave diamonds, at £1,950 the pair.

The Sama Whirl Studs close the trio at their smallest scale: at 11mm, the whirl is compressed to a tight ribbon caught mid-spin, the same continuous ribbon of gold as the pendant and earrings but drawn in on itself until head and skirt read as one closed turn, finished almost entirely in mirror polish, at £850 the pair. The whirl studs were designed to be worn every day, the trio's largest idea reduced to its smallest, most wearable form. Afsaneh runs from the Sama Whirl Studs at £850 to the Sama Pendant at £3,200, every piece solid gold and made to order in Birmingham's Jewellery Quarter: legend, myth and motion, held in metal that never stops turning.
