Bustan

Bustan

The orchard beyond the rose garden, set with colour.

Bustan (بوستان) means the orchard. Saadi wrote the Bustan in 1257 and the Golestan, the rose garden, a year later. Silux already carries the Golestan, and this family is its sister: the orchard beyond the rose garden, where things grow wild. It is a family of engagement rings and their fitted bands, set with colour, and each ring grows from a single thing in nature.

Each line has its own stem, its own cut of stone and one idea. Nastaran is the wild rose, a slim stem that passes either side of a kite. Yalda is the narcissus of the longest night, an elongated step cut with two small flowers of diamonds. Abarkuh is the old cypress, a split shank of bark textured boughs round a pear. Shokufeh is the almond blossom, two stones on one branch. Pichak is the twining vine, two stems that grow as one under an east west step cut. Risheh is the root, a shank of flowing roots holding a cushion in a slim bezel. In every line the band rises and becomes the setting, and the stone sits low and is visibly held.

Each line is drawn around a cut and a range of sizes rather than a single stone, so one setting suits many stones. The pictures with each ring show it in sapphires and diamonds of different colours; the centre stone is chosen with you and priced with it, and the price on each page is for the setting in 18ct yellow gold alone. Every ring has a fitted band to sit beside it, and Risheh a groom’s band in the same roots. Every ring is made to order, and nothing is held in stock.

A Persian miniature panorama of an orchard beyond the rose garden: almond trees in blossom, a vine on a pergola, an old cypress on the rise, wild roses along the wall and a stream at the roots of an old tree, for the Bustan collection. The Bustan Abarkuh Pear Cut Engagement Ring, the collection’s hero piece, shown at monument scale.
