A halo is a frame of small stones set around the centre stone. It adds light around the centre, and because the eye takes in the stone and its frame together, it can make the centre stone look larger than it would on its own.
What to look for: halo stones close in colour and brightness to the centre, so the frame and the stone read as one, and a frame in proportion to the stone, adding light without crowding it. If a wedding band will sit beside the ring, it is worth planning the two together from the start.
Here the halo is drawn in the house’s own language, most often as an ornament of its own rather than a plain circle of stones. On Azar it is a girih lattice, after the patterns that tile Isfahan’s mosques; on Chinar an iwan-arch frame of diamonds holds a pear-cut pink sapphire; on Niloufar eight pear-shaped diamond petals open around the centre like a water lily; and on Kohestar an oval sapphire sits within the shamseh, the eight-pointed Persian star, every point of it set with diamonds.

How a commission works
Every ring here is made to order, and every one can be customised. A commission begins with a free design session with the designer, at the studio in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter or by video call, wherever you are.
The chosen design becomes a precise digital model, built around the exact stone you approve. Nothing is cut, cast or set until you have approved the digital model.
From design approval, four to six weeks is the honest working range for most commissions, delivery included. A stone you already own is welcome, whether it was bought or inherited, and across every ring the centre stone is your decision: natural or laboratory grown.
Frequently asked
Does a halo make the centre stone look bigger?
It can. The small stones around the centre add light and widen the face of the setting, so the eye takes in a larger shape than the centre stone alone. How much depends on the width of the frame against the size of the stone.
Can a halo engagement ring have a coloured centre stone?
Yes. A frame of diamonds suits a coloured stone as well as a diamond: on this page, Chinar holds a pear-cut pink sapphire within its halo, and Kohestar an oval blue sapphire within its shamseh star.
Will a wedding band sit beside a halo engagement ring?
Usually, though the two are best planned together. A halo makes the head of the ring wider, so a straight band may sit with a small gap beside it, whilst a band shaped to follow the halo closes that gap. The two can be settled at the same design session.
Can I change the metal or the stone on one of these rings?
Yes. Start from any ring here and alter the metal, the stone or the proportions, or start from nothing at all and have a ring designed around your own brief. Both routes are the same commission.
