Unique Engagement Rings

Gold with a form of its own.

A sculptural engagement ring is one in which the metal carries a form of its own and the stone sits within it. On a classic solitaire the band and the claws are there to hold the stone up; on a sculptural ring the form is part of what the ring means, and often the first thing you notice.

What to look for is a form that means something to you, drawn so that it still behaves as a ring for every day: comfortable on the hand, with nothing sharp to catch, the stone held securely, and room for a wedding band beside it if you plan to wear one.

Here each form is drawn from Persian architecture or the Persian garden. Nahid frames an oval diamond within pointed iwan arches; Golnar is a pomegranate blossom of five petals, each three-dimensional and domed, with a blue sapphire at its centre; and on Setareh Mahtab a pierced girih star dome, hidden until the ring turns, cradles the stone.

How a commission works

Every ring here is made to order, and every one can be customised. A commission begins with a free design session with the designer, at the studio in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter or by video call, wherever you are.

The chosen design becomes a precise digital model, built around the exact stone you approve. Nothing is cut, cast or set until you have approved the digital model.

From design approval, four to six weeks is the honest working range for most commissions, delivery included. A stone you already own is welcome, whether it was bought or inherited, and across every ring the centre stone is your decision: natural or laboratory grown.

Frequently asked

What makes an engagement ring sculptural?

It is designed as a three-dimensional object rather than as a flat setting for a stone: the metal carries a form of its own, and the stone sits within it. The form might be an arch, a dome or a flower, there for what it means as much as to hold the stone.

Is a sculptural engagement ring practical to wear every day?

It can be, when the form is drawn with wear in mind: the stone held securely, nothing sharp to catch on a sleeve, and a profile that sits comfortably on the hand. Those questions are settled at the design session and on the digital model, before anything is cut, cast or set.

Can a sculptural engagement ring have a coloured centre stone?

Yes. On this page Golnar holds a blue sapphire at the heart of its blossom, Shab-rang an oval tanzanite within claws that rise in iwan arch points, and Roya an oval emerald framed by diamond-set arches.

Can I change the metal or the stone on one of these rings?

Yes. Start from any ring here and alter the metal, the stone or the proportions, or start from nothing at all and have a ring designed around your own brief. Both routes are the same commission.
