The Story
Some stars live in mountains.
Persian astronomers believed the Alborz peaks held stars within them, visible only to those willing to climb. کوهستار (Kohestar): the mountain star. Not metaphor, but a cosmology that placed the sacred inside the physical world.
At the heart of this ring sits a deep cornflower oval blue sapphire, natural and unheated, encircled by an eighteen-carat white gold frame shaped as a شمسه (shamseh): the eight-pointed Persian star found in the tilework of Isfahan’s Friday Mosque and repeated across five centuries of architectural devotion. The sapphire is the star. The shamseh is the mountain.
Every point of the octagram is set with round brilliant diamonds in pavé and grain settings, the white gold carrying their fire outward from the blue centre. A split-shank band twists gently before joining the setting, a quiet reference to mountain paths that converge at a single peak.
I designed Kohestar as a piece of wearable cosmology: a named thing with a specific story, not a category. If you choose this ring, I will source the sapphire personally, present you with candidates, and build the piece around the stone that belongs to you.
