The Story
In Persian poetry, sepideh (سپیده) is a specific quality of light: the pale white radiance of earliest dawn, the moment before sunrise when darkness yields not to colour but to luminosity. It is a word of beginning - of the light that announces what is coming before it arrives.
The boteh (بته) is one of Persia’s oldest decorative forms - the teardrop-comma motif found in Persian textiles, tilework, and manuscript illumination for more than a thousand years. It is often described as a bent cypress tree, the Persian symbol of resilience: bowing to the wind, never breaking. The West borrowed it and called it ‘paisley’, losing the meaning in translation.
This ring returns the meaning.
I set a pear brilliant diamond east-west in this ring - its teardrop form mirroring the boteh motif - horizontal, unexpected, quietly distinctive. On each shoulder, paired boteh reliefs rise in cast gold: the ancient Persian form engraved inside with fine scroll detail, a small diamond set at each tip. The band is satin-brushed, the boteh polished - the distinction in finish separating heritage motif from contemporary form.
Sepideh. The light that holds everything that comes next.
