Golestan Anar Hero Brooch

From £2,850

Final price confirmed at commission.

I designed the Golestan Anar Hero Brooch as the piece where the Anar capsule states its case in full. The pomegranate is opened, its seeds shown rather than implied, the fruit at the exact moment Persian miniature painters loved to capture it: split, generous, and full of what it was always holding.

The Story

I designed the Golestan Anar Hero Brooch as the piece where the Anar capsule states its case in full. The pomegranate is opened, its seeds shown rather than implied, the fruit at the exact moment Persian miniature painters loved to capture it: split, generous, and full of what it was always holding. The body is built in demi-relief, the fruit and its branch sculpted in full round to the front and hollowed beneath, opened at the centre into a panel where roughly 22 rubies, around 0.5ct in total, are grain-set into sculpted chambers to stand for the seeds. The surrounding body is brought to a mirror polish, while the branch, crown and leaves are left matte and hand-brushed, the same polished-against-raw language carried through every piece in the capsule. On the reverse, the hollowed structure is carved into a Persian girih lattice gallery, an openwork lattice across the flat back that carries the hinged pin bar and catch, and keeps a piece of this scale light enough to wear through a long day or evening. This is the capsule's prestige piece, built for the wearer who wants the pomegranate's full story told, not hinted at. Materials: 18ct yellow gold, UK hallmarked (Birmingham Assay Office)
