Our hero piece. Soraya is named for the Pleiades in their most exalted form - beauty beyond ordinary comparison. An Asscher-cut diamond is held rub-over in a full bezel of 18ct gold, without claws, so nothing breaks its outline. The Asscher is a step cut rather than a brilliant: its facets are cut as concentric straight-sided squares descending to a small flat table, and the four cropped corners set up the long receding reflections known as the hall of mirrors. It rewards a clear, well-proportioned stone rather than scattered sparkle. The bezel itself is plain. The ornament is kept below the stone, where the gallery is pierced with tall arches and set with small pave-set diamonds, and the shank flares into fine parallel flutes at the shoulders, gathered by two plain wrapped bands where it meets the head. Seen from above the piece reads as one clean square; seen from the side it reads as architecture. Made to order in 18ct gold or platinum. Ring sizes H-Q.
