The Story
I designed the Emza Butterfly Letter Pendant for anyone who wants their initial to carry something alive. Choose your letter, and I set a small butterfly on the stroke, wings smooth and continuous, resting exactly where the reed-pen line curves. The butterfly is grown out of the gold rather than added to it: wings and stroke are cast as one piece, so there is nothing to catch, snag or work loose over years of wear. The same mirror-polished edge and satin-brushed curve carry through from the plain letterform, so the whole piece reads as one calligraphic gesture with a small creature caught mid-flight on it. It sits close on a fine trace chain and cleans the same way any solid gold piece does: warm soapy water, a soft cloth, and an occasional polish. Every Emza piece is cast in solid gold and hallmarked by the Birmingham Assay Office before it leaves the bench. Materials: solid 9ct yellow gold (18ct available on request); butterfly fused to stroke, one-piece cast construction; fine trace chain included, 45cm; mirror-polished outer edge with satin-brushed inner curve; approx. 4.0g. Made to order: 5 to 7 weeks. Price from £560 (18ct from £780).
