The Story
In the sema, the whirling ceremony at the heart of this line, one palm turns up to receive and the other turns down to give. I wanted a pair of earrings that held that gesture rather than just referenced it, so I gave each ear a different role. Both earrings share the same form, a ribbon whirl roughly 25 by 13mm, open-backed and light enough to forget you are wearing it, around 5g each. Only one carries stones: about 20 pave-set 1.0mm round brilliant diamonds, roughly 0.10ct, set along the curve of the whirl. The other earring is left entirely plain, the same gold, the same polish, no diamonds at all. One ear receives the light. The other gives the gold. Worn as intended, the asymmetry reads as a pair, not a mismatch, the way the two halves of a gesture belong together. Each earring is finished in mirror-polished 18ct yellow gold, fitted with a simple post, and hallmarked by the Birmingham Assay Office. Materials: 18ct solid yellow gold, hallmarked by the Birmingham Assay Office
